Solar Power Advantages – One Way to Save On Energy Costs

More and more people are looking at solar power advantages to find a way to ease the crippling burden of rising energy costs. Most people are unsure if the advantages of solar power are worth the cost and effort of installing solar panels and are uncertain about the benefits.

One of the biggest advantages of solar power is that it’s not only environmentally friendly but also, given today’s gloomy economic climate when everyone is looking for ways to cut living costs, it’s an easy way for folks to cut their energy bills. You can start helping the environment and minimising the costs of your energy source by using solar power instead.

There’s a lot of information on the web and I’ve put together some articles and videos to hopefully help you gain a better insight into the advantages of solar power.

I found a really cool video which gives a load of information on solar energy in an easy to understand way. Check out Solar Power : Energy 101 below

There’s an interesting website with load of facts on solar power – here’s just a snippet

      • Da Vinci predicted a solar industrialization as far back as 1447.

In one hour more sunlight falls on the earth than what is used by the
        entire population in one year.

    • A world record was set in 1990 when a solar powered aircraft flew 4060km
across the USA, using no fuel.
    • Fierce weather cost the world a record $130 Billion in the first eleven
months of 1998- more money than was lost from weather related disasters from
      1980 to 1990 ($82 Billion).

Besides doing our bit for the environment, cost factors and savings in our household bills are paramount and more so than ever in these very difficult financial times.  Here’s an excerpt from  a blog on how to monitor solar energy consumption to really maximise savings:

In this ever more energy efficient era, people are increasingly looking at ways of saving energy in their homes. Good insulation, A-rated appliances and the well known energy saving tips are great for reducing fuel bills and reducing the carbon footprint of a home. But there are other ways to ensure that your home is as green as possible

If you’re thinking of installing solar power in your home you’ll obviously want to get as much info as possible before making your final decision. Solar power for homes is definitely on the increase but is it right for you?

I’ve put together some of information on residential solar power from across the net and hope that it will be helpful.

Here’s a video of a guy who installed solar power in his home – he gives his feedback and the best news of all – he gets paid for the electricity he generates AND saves on his utilitity bills.

Here’s a couple of excerpts from an interesting post

Solar in home is very much popular in this age and period. Because of the rising prices of almost everything, from food, necessities and healthcare, to unstoppable rise in utility bills most especially electric bills. The demand for energy coming from oil, petroleum and other non-renewable energy sources is continually rising making prices of almost everything rises. Because the great demands for the mentioned sources of energy, pollution and destruction of the ozone layer that results in the speed developing global warming is the end result

Solar power sounds to be impractical and expensive, but that expense is a onetime incurrence only, once your home is installed with solar panels and converted into a solar home, costs stops but the benefit does not. The investment on solar power is realizable and its advantages and endless benefits should not be discounted

What sort of costs are involved in solar power for homes?

It will be really important of course for you to find out the sort of cost you could expect for installing solar power. I’ve found a site that has a solar panel installation calculator – just be aware this is just a ball park figure but will give you an idea of the sort of figure you will probably be looking at. History Of Solar Energy

When people talk about solar energy, a lot of people think of certain solar energy sources that are pretty common to them, such as wood, and even dried animal droppings. Aside from these possible sources of solar energy, people also associate the concept of solar energy as one of the possible causes for global warming.

However, there are still a lot of things that people do not know or fully understand about solar energy just yet, like what it is exactly, and how to use it to its utmost potential. In order for you to fully understand more about solar and sustainable energy, and what the future holds for it, you need to learn more about the history of solar energy. This article will give you a chance to delve in deeper into solar energy’s fascinating history.

Historical Role Of Solar Energy

One of the more common and more popular roles that the sun, or solar energy, played during those ancient times is that of a force that is able to sustain life based on its ability to give off renewable energy. This is probably the main reason as to why the people during those times, especially in native South and North America, as well as in other parts of the world, worshipped the Sun.

Ancient Greece built temples devoted to worshipping their sun deities, namely, Helio and Apollo. Also, the Greeks use of solar energy were not limited to religious purposes, as they even used the solar energy system to incorporate passive solar design in the construction of their houses.

The Romans simply improved the Greek’s design and also incorporated windows into their structures, allowing them to be able to trap more solar heat. This actually played a role in their ability to produce a good growing condition for plants.

Solar Hot Water Heater Prototype

Unknown to a lot of people, but the original prototype for solar hot water heaters is actually a result of do-it-yourself projects of people in their hopes to be able to boil water, and keeping the water hot for a longer period of time. Scientists during the 18th century were able to discover that covering a box with a glass top while heating it would actually get the water to reach boiling temperature. But it wasn’t until someone tried to separate the solar heat collector with the water tank that the first prototype for solar hot water heaters was created.

Discovery Of Solar Energy Cells

Solar energy cells, also known as PV cells, are actually created when three Americans discovered that building transistors with silicon. This was during the 1950′s. PV cells weren’t actually an affordable solar energy source back then, however, due to its practical use in the satellite industry, the solar energy cell industry became sustainable. PV cells serve as the main fuel source for satellites out in space.

Solar Energy Today

Nowadays, in our more technologically advanced times, solar energy has now garnered a lot of renewed interest and focus, especially since solar energy has now become more affordable, and offers more use and application in our modern day needs. Solar energy cells are actually being used in a lot of businesses and homes today, and are even responsible for powering most household appliances, office equipments, and are even used to power cars.
